A Use for Broken Crayons

When I was in preschool I remember a project similar to this. I tried to recreate it, but that was 23 years ago, so I don't know if it is the same.

We took all of the broken crayons we could find and made them naked as Ezra called it (peeled off the paper). I let the kids break them with their hands. Then we put them in a bag and crushed them with a meat mallet which was very fun for a three year old boy! We put the crayon bits between two pieces of waxed paper and ironed them with a cloth over the top. Then we cut them out. Ezra made a fall tree. Livi made a big fall leaf.

That is a cute idea. A similar thing that we used to do as kids was to get shavings of the crayons by using a pencil sharpener. Then we would choose a picture from a coloring book, or just use a piece of paper and decorate it. If you use a picture, then you can put the shavings within the lines and what not. Then you put it on a cookie sheet or something and put it in the oven to melt the shavings. That was pretty fun stuff too. I will have to try your idea because taking a mallet to crayons seems a whole lot more much than shaving them in a pencil sharpener! Can't wait to see you in a few weeks!!

What a cute idea Ash. I'm going to try that with my kids. Ty would love it!

Oh, and I would LOVE a copy of all our "movie star" moments from back in the day. No rush though, as you have plenty on your plate right now. We should have a viewing party and watch them together. :o)

That is a really really good idea. I love it. I don't remember ever doing anything like that. Of course I am so old now! You are always doing such fun things with your kids. You are an amazing mom.
I am so glad to hear things are going better for you.
